Summit Jewelers has been locally owned and operated by Martin Hassing since 1979! Our staff of six includes designers, jewelers, appraisers, and sales personnel who are passionate about their artistry and experience. ALL of our staff have bench/metal-smithing skills plus we are G.I.A. trained and certified (our staff includes a Graduate Jeweler Gemologist, a Gemologist, Diamonds and Diamond Grading Graduates, and a Colored Stone Identification Graduate.) We continue to practice strict gemstone evaluation in accordance with the G.I.A. industry standards.
After a simple beginning in the basement of Marty’s house, we grew and grew until a store front was needed. Now, in our historic building in Webster Groves, Missouri, Summit continues to provide high quality craftsmanship, in-house design, repairs, manufacturing and appraisals. We love what we do!
Our original store tagline was “Makers of Fine Gold Jewelry” which is just the tip of the iceberg. Not only do we work in all colors of gold, but also platinum and sterling silver. We pride ourselves on creating our own designs from the bottom up, beginning with a sketch and ending with a one-of-a-kind piece to be shown in our display cases or delivered to a happy client. All the steps in- between depend on what the design dictates; some need to be carved out of wax and cast in the appropriate metal, some need to be built using wire and sheet. Some are created using gemstones we have collected from international shows and markets – Hong Kong, Thailand, Brazil and Cambodia. Occasionally, we close up shop and ALL go to the Tucson Gem and Mineral show or gem market in Chanthaburi, Thailand (so much fun!). The breadth of our work also includes a huge amount of customer-driven custom projects which are sometimes straight-forward (many one-of-a-kind wedding sets) and sometimes historical (we rebuilt the hilt of a sword from the War of 1812 ). Bring us any project, we enjoy a challenge and can tackle almost anything.
Our workshop/showroom is located in a charming old house, circa 1928, on the east edge of the Old Orchard shopping district in Webster. Please stop in and say hi to our team – Our golden retrievers, Buddy and Yadi, and their four-legged pals BeBe and Roscoe, are especially fond of attention.
